M4A is a file format developed by Apple which compresses and stores audio files. It can be easily converted to various other formats like AIFF, a great format for storing audio files as it is very high quality and uncompressed. If you want to convert your M4A files to AIFF files, then this post is for you!

We will demonstrate this task with both offline and online audio converter, and also share some additional tips! If that sounds great to you, then let's get started!

What is AIFF File?

AIFF stands for Audio Interchange File Format. Just like M4A, this format too was developed by Apple back in 1988.

The AIFF format is used for storing really high-quality audio files which haven't been compressed. It is mostly used for storing sound data for personal computers. More specifically, it's mostly used on Macs. Although it can also be played and stored on Windows PCs

Some of the advantages of using AIFF are:

  • Cross-platform compatibility
  • Very high-quality audio
  • Uncompressed format
  • Allow storage of additional metadata like artist, album, etc.

But the con to this file format is that the files generated can be pretty huge and take up a lot of storage on your disk.
